CD4017 Counter IC
Decade Counter: The CD4017 is a 10-stage Johnson counter/decade counter. This means it can count from 0 to 9 in binary, making it ideal for applications where you need to divide an input frequency by 10 or create a digital sequence from 0 to 9.
Clock Input: The IC has a clock input (usually labeled as CLK or CLOCK) that is used to advance the count. It counts on the rising edge (positive edge) of the clock signal.
Decoded Outputs: The CD4017 provides 10 decoded outputs (Q0 to Q9). These outputs go high in sequence as the counter advances, allowing you to easily create a sequential logic or control circuit.
Reset Input: It has a reset input (usually labeled as RESET or RST) that can be used to reset the counter to zero. When the reset input is triggered, the counter is cleared, and the Q0 output goes high.
Cascade Capability: You can cascade multiple CD4017 ICs to create a counter with a higher number of stages if needed.
Power Supply Voltage: The CD4017 typically operates with a power supply voltage in the range of 3 volts to 15 volts, making it compatible with a wide range of digital systems.
Output Drive Capability: The outputs are generally capable of sourcing or sinking a limited amount of current, so additional buffering may be required for driving external loads.
Applications: The CD4017 is commonly used in applications such as digital counters, sequential LED lighting displays, frequency dividers, and various timing and control circuits.
