L298N Motor Driver IC
Dual H-Bridge Configuration: The L298N features a dual H-bridge configuration, allowing it to control two motors independently. This configuration provides bidirectional control (forward and reverse) for each motor.
Voltage Ratings: The L298N can handle a wide range of supply voltages, typically from 5V to 35V, making it suitable for various motor applications. The voltage requirements depend on the motors being driven.
Current Handling: It can handle motor currents up to 2A per channel continuously and up to 3A peak per channel. The ability to handle high currents makes it suitable for driving medium-sized DC motors and stepper motors.
Logic Inputs: The IC accepts logic-level control inputs to determine the direction and speed of the connected motors. These inputs allow you to control the motors using microcontrollers, Arduino boards, or other digital control circuits.
Built-in Protection Diodes: The L298N includes built-in flyback diodes (freewheeling diodes) to protect against voltage spikes that can occur when the motors are turned off.
Heat Sink Compatibility: Due to the power dissipation during operation, it's often necessary to attach heat sinks to the L298N to prevent overheating. The IC is available in a multiwatt15 package, which can be easily attached to a heat sink.
Applications: The L298N is commonly used in robotics, RC vehicles, CNC machines, and various projects that require precise motor control.
