CD4060 Counter IC
Binary Ripple Counter: The CD4060 is a 14-stage binary ripple counter, which means it can divide an input frequency by 2^14, resulting in a wide range of division ratios.
Built-in Oscillator: The CD4060 features an internal oscillator with an oscillator frequency determined by an external resistor (R) and capacitor (C) connected to its pins (Rt and Ct). By selecting appropriate resistor and capacitor values, you can set the oscillator frequency to your desired rate.
Divider Stages: The IC divides the oscillator frequency by 2 at each stage, resulting in a series of binary outputs (Q0 to Q13) where each output represents a different division ratio.
Clock Input (Ck): The CD4060 can also accept an external clock signal to drive the counter. In this mode, the oscillator is disabled, and the external clock input determines the division ratio.
Reset (R) and Carry Out (CO): The CD4060 includes a reset input (often labeled as RST or MR) to clear the counter and a carry-out (CO) pin that goes high when the counter reaches its maximum count, allowing you to cascade multiple CD4060 ICs.
Power Supply Voltage: The CD4060 typically operates with a power supply voltage in the range of 3 volts to 15 volts, making it compatible with various digital systems.
Applications: The CD4060 is commonly used in applications where timing, frequency division, and oscillation are required. It is found in clock circuits, timer circuits, frequency dividers, and various electronic projects.
